We're proud to use the products and process created and distributed by Butterfield Color®. These are high quality products engineered for high performance in severe and moderate climates. The product quality speaks for itself!

The first step is to decide the location(s), access such as steps, colors and look of the new concrete work. In the color link, you can get an idea about the range of colors that are available for your application. In general, most applications incorporate two colors, the base and the release. Since the stamping patterns are made to resemble natural elements, the contrasting color combinations provides the natural appearance.

The shape and size of your area is another option and not limited to straight edges.

Pouring

  • Setup the area by removing grass and dirt, setting forms and shape.
  • Establish grade and prepare pour surface. This will include the addition of gravel.
  • Base color is added to concrete on the day of pour. Amount base is determined by the size and area of pour area. Depth of concrete is 4" on average.
  • Pour and concrete setup.
    1. Striking Off: The initial leveling off of the concrete is called striking off
    2. Jitterbugging: Done to bring cream to the surface, allowing smoother finishing and stamping.
    3. Bullfloating: This process closes the surface, brings more cream to the surface and creates a flat and smooth surface.
    4. Edging & Trowelling: Edging the concrete gives it a nice smooth radius edge to the concrete.
    5. Fresno Finish: The Fresno is the final finishing before release is applied. Like Bullfloating, it improves the flatness and smoothness of the finish.
  • Release is applied to the entire area.
  • Patterns are layed and stamped for the entire area.
  • After concrete has dried (approximately 1 day) the surface area is washed and cleaned.
  • The first coat of special sealer is applied to the clean and dry surface. The sealer takes about 4 hours to dry to the touch and 8 hours before it can be walked on. Note: final appearance of this coat will appear inconsistant and dull, as the concrete absorbs the sealing material.
  • After the first coat of sealer is dry, the surface is washed and cleaned once more.
  • The second coat of special sealer is applied to the clean and dry surface, bringing out the beauty of the final product.

Overlay

  • The existing surface is repaired and cleaned. It is important that the base for the overlay material is in an acceptable condition to ensure the durability of the new surface.
  • Base color is added to concrete on the day of pour. Amount base is determined by the size and area of pour area. Depth of concrete is .25" on average.
  • Pour and councrete setup.
